its the same place it is on all Windows XP machines. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragment
2 :
Airdogspace is right if you're using the Windows disk defragmenter with Windows XP, but that option may not be right there with some operating systems or if your computer has a third-party defragmenter installed. However, I believe all modern operating systems and third-party defragmenters allow you to take the alternative route of opening My Computer, right-clicking on the drive you want to defragement and selecting "Properties", then the "Tools" tab and clicking on the "Defragment now" button.

try updating the drivers for your disk drive.
2 :
This means that there is an error with your disk drive. You might want to get it checked out by a professional.
3 :
RESet the auto play setting in control panel to "ask me everytime"
4 :
Common problem with Toshiba laptops. They install a very shoddy CD/DVD drive with a Japanese sounding brand name. This brand name drive is notorious for failing. Just contact Toshiba support and they will replace the drive (probably with a Pioneer brand drive as they did with me). Your laptop will be away 2-3 days and then it will come back working perfectly
5 :
you probably have a problem with your disk drivers try reinstalling them with the recovery disk that you laptop came with
6 :
Well, I have one, and when I insert a disk it automatically plays it on media player or any other player. Or it would have a little window with all the choices like "Play on Media Play, Do nothing, download, and save in folder" Hope I helped PEACEĆ¢™¥

How do I totally erase and install new software on an old Toshiba laptop?

How do I totally erase and install new software on an old Toshiba laptop?
I recently received an old Toshiba laptop. I would like to erase everything and install new software. I'm fixing this up for my 10 yr. old nephew. How do I go about cleaning it up (hard-drive) and installing the software I have accumulated here at home.

No problem. Use this..it is an awesome program that deletes every trace od an app, as opposed to window add/remove programs which leaves 80% behind. Its free, I use it, and handed it out to all family members, so I dont have to fix their PCs in the future! http://www.revouninstaller.com/

The best way to start with a complete new operating system and erase every thing at the same time is to do a system recovery using the factory recovery CD set. The CD set can be ordered from http://www.toshiba.com customer service by model and serial number. Another way is to buy a boxed new operating system. And yet another is to delete all word/excel files, pictures etc., remove all added programs from add/remove programs ( this one is slow and will not repair any system files or problems. Hope this helps

How do i fix my toshiba laptop charger?

How do i fix my toshiba laptop charger?

Pictures would help a lot for this... If it's not fully deattached, carefully wrap it in electric tape a few times and re-attach the part that's broken off. Sometimes if you hold your charger a certain way it will work, and then if you hold it a different way it wont work anymore. So a lot of this is experimentation with what will work. Once you figure out the best position, try your best to wrap it such that it stays in that position.

You can but off brand adapter from ebay for about $10. if only the cable section got chewed up then you can. Do this at your own risk. 1. cut off the chewed up section 2. Remove the rubber insulation to expose the wire on both end. 3. reconnect the wires by twisting them together (make sure match the color of the cables or you will fry your laptop) 4. use electrical tape to separate the wires(don't let them touch each other)
3 :
If the damage part of the cable is the power line (110/240), it's easy to fix with a pair of pliers and tape but the cable that carry DC power is a bit challenging, you will need a soldering iron and some skill. The converter itself is sealed and has no serviceable parts.

You could patch it up with electrical tape but I wouldn't suggest it. I've talked to tons of people who had the same thing and even with the tape it fried their motherboards. If you are willing to risk it, then you can patch it up. It can also be a temporary fix. However, I would still advise to get a new one as soon as possible. Sort of like having a blown out tire. Sure you can.. drive a bit but you can't tape the thing together. You eventually need to purchase a new one. You can go online and visit sites like ebay or amazon but I would personally suggest you visit Topmic instead. Topmic is well known for their great services and their durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. Yes, lifetime. This means if the charger ever stops working on its own for whatever reason, they would replace it as many times as needed at no additional cost, for life. This is a great way to save money in the long run and a good investment as well. You should be able to find them online through google search. Best of luck.
