You will probably have to download an audio driver for your computer. So, a.) You can google your computers model number with audio driver. b.) Try to reinstall Windows on your computer and hopefully its on the startup disc (or partition). For recovery follow this link for windows 7. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/ or on vista ithink its the esc key or f8 key when you start your computer, then just choose recovery, then follow the steps. But just finding the audio driver is extremely easy if you can find the correct driver. P.S. You must have the driver for your model and OS. Or it WILL NOT work.

You need to go into the settings.

Look at the right bottom of your task bar, there is an "speaker icon" there beside the digital clock (hour and minute). Left click the "speaker icon" and a pop-up window of an image of speaker (Top), a vertical slider bar (Volume Control), and a small speaker icon below can be seen. See to it that the slider bar is on top of the bar (maximum volume), and the small speaker icon below is not muted. If that icon has a "Red Circle with a slash" it means it is muted, click that icon to remove it. Then play music to test it, your speaker should be working now. If not, the speaker terminal might have a loose connection or the speaker coil is burned out. Worse is, if the audio amplifier itself is busted. You'll need to bring it to a laptop technician if this is the case to fix it.
