that depends if the recovery disc is just a ghost of your toshiba or the actual windows install disk if it is the windows install disk then yes you can use it on your hp but you will end up having to use the windows cd key for your hp during install.
2 :
I think Toshiba's restore/recovery discs will only work on the computer you own. It's not a install disc in the normal sense.

How much will it cost to replace a battery in a 13" toshiba laptop?

how much will it cost to replace a battery in a 13" toshiba laptop?
I have an older 13" toshiba laptop and i need to replace the battery, how much would it cost to get it repaced at best buy for example?
Laptops & Notebooks - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
129.99 each at Cosco Piece of Junk anyway dork
2 :
With most warranties, it can be replaced for free. Otherwise they range from $99-300.
3 :
Depends on the specific model and, as it's an older unit, whether or not batteries are still available for it. Check with Toshiba first, if only to find the highest price, then the sources listed below and/or do a Google search for laptop batteries.
4 :
Price it here by model number: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/findBatteries.jsp Usually $100.00 up for new original.
5 :
Original, authentic batteries cost more than a $100. Do not get the cheap ones which usually are only Class A or Class B refurbished batteries. Since you have an older model of a 13" Toshiba laptop, I would suggest you check out first the availability of your battery. click here: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/findBatteries.jsp Then check if they have it here, & if it's cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007934+50001259&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=538&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&AdvancedSearch=1&srchInDesc= If you are not familiar with these process (I don't know if your laptop is still in warranty or not), so I would advice you to call Toshiba's Tech Support hotline number (1-800-457-7777) for further assistance from the Phone Tech Support Team. Make sure to write down the name of the person who will get your call. Tell them you need to buy a new battery & you need the model number of the battery right for your laptop. FYI, which ever country your call will be routed to, please be patient & polite to the person who will take your call. After all, you are the one calling them for assistance with whatever issue you are having with your portable computer. Make sure to speak your name clearly (spell it, if need be) & provide all the info needed & asked for. They are trained professionals for handling simple matters, so I believe they should be able to assist you w/ any issue as long as IT IS WITHIN THEIR SCOPE OF SUPPORT. It depends on the company but be cooperative because these phone technicians have a specific handle time to be able to resolve the issue of a caller, so please do not be a jerk. Listen carefully to their instructions & follow it, because IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW MORE, then WHY CALL FOR ASSISTANCE IN THE FIRST PLACE. If your computer's 1-yr Standard Limited Warranty has ALREADY EXPIRED, then ask them politely & talk to them in a friendly manner, for they are there to listen and PROVIDE YOU BASIC INFORMATION as much as they can. Best time to call, after midnight Pacific Time. For the battery life to last longer, you need more cells into it. So ask Toshiba if you can get a HIGHER CAPACITY 6 CELL BATTERY, b'coz the regular one doesn't last long. 8 cell, 9 cell & 12 cell batteries means they can last longer. Additional info, read on: I used to work for a big name computer company & usually received a lot of calls regarding battery issues. A brand new computer's battery comes w/ a Standard 1yr Limited Warranty w/c means the expected life time of battery is only 1 year. Same thing goes for the charger. So, if you don't know how to take care of it, it will die out on you sooner than than expected. FYI: I always tell my customers, a laptop's battery is similar to a cell phone's. You charge it when it's depleted & you unplug the adapter when it is already fully charge (this will prevent the battery from getting overcharged & extend the life of the battery). So for less hassle, I always advice my customers to just remove the battery if they plan to use the computer for long hours straight (more than 1 hour) and just run it on AC power alone so as not to overcharge it & shorten the battery life. ONLY USE THE BATTERY FOR PORTABILITY, if you're on a trip, at McDonalds or Starbucks. If you're not after its portability, use it plugged into the wall socket all the time. For chargers, make sure you don't stretch out the cable too much that the one by the power jack that you plug into the side of the computer gets bent. Make sure this part is always straight or else the copper wires inside will break & you'll have the problem of the charger not working anymore like what happened to some of my callers. You might want to buy this to protect your screen: watch the video: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997730 Protect your screen from cracks, get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is, you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation. When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, then use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for $15, 48% cheaper than the regular $25 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931). click to buy: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317850

Toshiba laptop recovery options upon initial start up?

Toshiba laptop recovery options upon initial start up?
Hi I have purchased a new Toshiba laptop, and on initial start up I was aked to select recovery options. One was restore to out-of box state, including the system recovery options. The other was restore without changing the hard drive partitions. Both sound ominous and I'm not sure which to choose, especially because I do not know what hard drive partitions are. Please help :)

restore to out-of box state - This will wipe all user data and programs. Just like when you bought it. restore without changing the hard drive partitions - This will keep user data. Disk partitioning is the act of dividing a hard disk drive into multiple logical storage units.

Can I get my Indian HP/Toshiba laptop serviced at london?

Can I get my Indian HP/Toshiba laptop serviced at london?
I'm planning to buy a laptop of HP/Toshiba from london. I'm also getting the same in India. I just wanted to ask that If i buy it from India, then can I get it serviced in london? Can I get my warranty fulfilled in london if some problem happens?
Laptops & Notebooks - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
When you purchase a laptop, you purchase it from that GLOBAL company. So, if you purchase it in India, and then it develops an issue in London and you need to get it repaired, then you call that company's local tech support number, and they will tell you where to send it... in London... Or Japan... Or The USA... wherever you are. That's why the company is GLOBAL. Now, if you went to London, and went to a Curry's, and bought a Curry's Store Brand laptop like the EI Systems Sorrento, then you *MIGHT* have difficulty getting it serviced in India, unless you went to a local shop. But, that is because EI Systems is not a GLOBAL brand. However, since you chose two Global brands to pick from, you will have no trouble. As far as the warranty is concerned, your warranty is with Toshiba or HP. Not the city of London, or the country of India. end of line.

How hard can I type on my Toshiba laptop?

How hard can I type on my Toshiba laptop?
How hard can I type on my Toshiba laptop? With desktop keyboards, when people peck or punch I'm not so worried, because they're cheap and it's easy to plug in a replacement, but with a laptop there can't be more than a few millimetres between typing trotters and the soft innards of the machine's brain, surely? Having said that, typing too delicately is a pain.
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers

Well dont type too hard, thats all i can say! Laptop are kinda fragile! I got laptop as well and before on my desktop pc i used o type hard but since i got my laptop im more careful. Changin the keyboard will cost u loads!!!
2 :
well your shouldn't type hard at all on a computer but espesially with a laptop just don't bang on it the keys aren't that close to the cpu and everything else but you can still do some damage. if you don't want to worry just get a keyboard with a usb plug and use it on your laptop.
3 :
Typing fast doesn't mean to type hard! you have to practice to find the proper push on the your laptops keyboard. one good way to practice this is to pretend to type something, like you are gonna hit the keys but you would not, and little by little you'll try to touch the keys and then push just a little bit more until you get the letters on the screen.

Reinstalling windows on a Toshiba Laptop with no disc?

Reinstalling windows on a Toshiba Laptop with no disc?
I have a Toshiba Laptop Model L305D-S5935 and I need to reinstall Windows Vista Home Prenium, and I don't have the disc. It came with the laptop. There's no application on it to reinstall it on the hard drive.

1 :
impossible..need a disk
2 :
There's probably a tool on the laptop to make recovery disks from files stored on the laptop. If you've already formatted or erased what's on the laptop, you're out of luck.
3 :
you can use anyones copy of vista home premium, instal it using thier serial then once the instal is complete and before you activate it with microsoft change the serial to the one on the underneath of your laptop you can do the change by first right clicking on my computer and then left clicking on properties at the bottom of the window that pops up there will be the serial key you entered when you installed the os and next to it a highlighted option to change the serial key the rest is simple
4 :
If you didn't get the Disk for Windows Vista Home Premium then there's no way that you can do it yourself. You could buy the copy of Windows Vista Home Premium at Best Buy and then put that in the disk drive and then restart it and it should reinstall the OS or you could just take it to best buy. Why do you have to reinstall the operating system anyway? If it comes with the operating system already installed then it should work fine and you shouldn't have to reinstall the operating system unless it crashed. I have a computer that crashed 3 times.

Should I recharge my Toshiba window 7 laptop while in use?

Should I recharge my Toshiba window 7 laptop while in use?
I bought a Toshiba laptop window 7 home premum 64-bit, intelcore 2 duo processor. The laptop is 4 gb. But the maximum amount of battery power it can last is about 2 and a half hours because of its awesome graphics. Is it safe to recharge this really good laptop while in use? I was told by a worker not to charge it while in use because it will dry out the battery. What should I do?
Laptops & Notebooks - 6 Answers

Yes it is fine to plug it in while you use it.
2 :
i would let it charge by itself so u dont mess the battry up....ur welcome
3 :
Of course it is, the worker must have been out of his mind, most people I know with laptops have their laptops plugged into the wall 24/7, whether they are using it or not.
4 :
my friend does that a lot, it is ok to charge the battery while in use
5 :
Next time you get advice from a worker ... make sure it's one who know more about computers than this one Plug your laptop in and work to your hearts content ... you may find that there are some settings you can use to improve the battery life as well ... I have a Toshiba (and 2 other brands as well) and on full performance power I get approx 2 and a half to 3 hrs ... but with the settings configured for maximum battery life I get over 5 and a half hours
6 :
I've never heard that before. As a warning comes on,informing you to switch to main power when battery gets low, then it must be okay. I quite often let mine run way down, then connect to mains whilst i'm working. I'm no electrical engineer, but I can't see the difference as to when you connect,it still goes into battery

Clean windows registry means faster PC performance. The registry is one of the most valuable sections of your PC. This is where important information and directories relating to installed software, hardware, temporary files downloaded from the Internet, created documents and folders, and other minor and minor applications are stored. Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software's, install new devices, download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system. This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched. Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC. Cleaning the windows registry however is quite risky so these reminders might be a great help before you begin. 1. Before you clean the registry, be sure you really now how and what you are doing. If you are in doubt and just plain curious, you better consult a professional IT. This is for you and your computer's security. 2. It is very important to create a back up of all you files before cleaning the windows registry so if the worse thing happens, your files are safe. 3. Find a reliable registry cleaning software on the net. You can either download a free ware or purchase it. A good registry cleaning software is one that includes multiple features - defragmenter, PC scan, junk file remover, uninstaller, and RAM optimizer. Now that you know what it takes to clean windows registry doesn't mean you can do this all by yourself, unless you are an IT professional. You will probably have to download an audio driver for your computer. So, a.) You can google your computers model number with audio driver. b.) Try to reinstall Windows on your computer and hopefully its on the startup disc (or partition). For recovery follow this link for windows 7. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/ or on vista ithink its the esc key or f8 key when you start your computer, then just choose recovery, then follow the steps. But just finding the audio driver is extremely easy if you can find the correct driver. P.S. You must have the driver for your model and OS. Or it WILL NOT work.
2 :
You need to go into the settings.
3 :
Look at the right bottom of your task bar, there is an "speaker icon" there beside the digital clock (hour and minute). Left click the "speaker icon" and a pop-up window of an image of speaker (Top), a vertical slider bar (Volume Control), and a small speaker icon below can be seen. See to it that the slider bar is on top of the bar (maximum volume), and the small speaker icon below is not muted. If that icon has a "Red Circle with a slash" it means it is muted, click that icon to remove it. Then play music to test it, your speaker should be working now. If not, the speaker terminal might have a loose connection or the speaker coil is burned out. Worse is, if the audio amplifier itself is busted. You'll need to bring it to a laptop technician if this is the case to fix it.

i wouldnt reccomend it. unless you have Duron or Celeron. basically unless you can go an additional 500mhz or additional core its not worth it, and most laptops cant make that large of a jump. anything less than 400mhz and you really wont see much of a speed difference. the mainbaords are very limited in laptops
2 :
You have to change the motherboard in order to change the processor, and all that will cost as much as a new laptop
3 :
You have a laptop you're in no luck to upgrade the processor. CPU is permenantly mounted/soldered to the motherboard (I'm 100% sure) unless there's an option to replace motherboard.

I already have my Toshiba laptop hooked up to my flat screen AOC. The picture is perfect but there is no sound coming out of my tv, only my laptop. Is there anyway I can get the sound to switch to my tv instead? Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A300 Series TV: AOC Envision Series HD

1 :
you can only hook up video not sound.. u gotta play audio thru ur laptop... unless u can some how hook up audio in to ur tv
2 :
The only video output that supports video and audio is an HDMI output, any other form will only have video. You would have to buy a cable that goes from your audio out (small green output) that goes into your white and red connection to your television. That should do the trick for you!
3 :
Your laptop only has a VGA output (The blue connector) unfortunately this is only video. You need to buy a 3.5mm jack to plug into the input of your TV to allow sound also. I would say better to hook it up to a HiFi for some nice quality sound for your movies!
4 :
Easiest way to do this is to buy computer speakers bcuz im guessing your laptop isnt loud enough. Another way is buy a adapter cord that goes from microphone jack to two RCA cords. (the red and white sound cables that go in the TV) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2110497
5 :
Buy a 3.5mm to RCA adapter at just about any place; Walmart, Best Buy, Walgreens, RiteAid, you name it. It will have a headphone connector on one end, and the red and white RCA plugs on the other that you should be able to recognize. Plug the 3.5mm connector into your laptop's headphone jack and the other end into your TV. Ta-da!

It can be damaged if you take them off try to use the air boover for cleaning dust from the keyboar.d
2 :
try to use very very delicate an vacoom cleaner, yes, you can take off the keys but is not recomended because you can damage very easy. Try to blow air and after use the portable vacum cleaner that will clean most of the dirty. Try next time to don`t eat or smoke over your laptop, it is not nice.
3 :
Use canned air duster that you can get from computer or office supply stores. Don't blast the junk out in the house and use short bursts - don't hold the can's trigger down. If it's really bad, you can use one of those pre-moistened sanitizer wipes (not soaking wet) and a very small slotted screw driver to gently clean in the gaps between the keys. BE VERY PATIENT and careful - do NOT twist pry the keys up as they are not designed to be replaceable. i don't recommend using a paper towel or napkin for this because it will leave lint or bits of paper behind. I'd recommend only cleaning the gaps and NOT try to clean "under" the edges of the keys. If you rush and or not extra careful when doing this, you will pop a key lose or off and probably won't be able to get it back on. I wouldn't advise a vacuum as the suction might be too strong and yank the keys right off.

Can I restore factory settings on my Toshiba laptop without backup discs?

Can I restore factory settings on my Toshiba laptop without backup discs?
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and I have lost the back up discs and I want to restore it to the original settings. Can this be done without the discs? I read somewhere that it may have a partitioned hard drive which may store this information. If this is the case any idea how to access it? Thanks

you can try this, as it's booting up tap the F-11 key, if no soap try F-12 key. might be able to get a disk for price of shipping.
2 :
download the recovery cd, its an image file and you need to burn it to a dvd with an image burner, dont use a cd or you might get writting errors like i did, when done, it has an option to test it on your destop, do it....this disk will re-install your system as new.
3 :
You should have two partitions on the drive, c for the OS and d for the restore files

Will Skype work well on a super cheap Toshiba laptop?
I need a laptop which I will be using for school, internet, and Skype. I don't play games or anything, so I don't need a really expensive computer. I'm thinking about buying a really cheap Toshiba, but am concerned about making sure that Skype will work well on it. Are some laptops too slow for Skype? Anyone have any problems with this? Thanks!

Yes, it will work fine. It works on my 8 (!) year old Sony laptop. I'm sure that a cheap, but new Toshiba is more powerful than my old Sony.

install Windows XP on the laptop, and install Skype, it'll run perfect :).

Yeah, it will work great on any new laptop.

when I plug them into my toshiba laptop, but not my ipod?

Why are my headphones making a weird buzzing sound when I plug them into my toshiba laptop, but not my ipod?
They were plugged into my new laptop and i reached down and grabbed a blanket, then my headphones made a very little staticy noise. After that it just kept buzzing when it was plugged into my Toshiba, so I took it out and plugged it into my iPod sitting right next to me and the sound worked perfectly. So, why doesn't it work in my laptop then?

I ordered a Toshiba laptop last night after hours of massive research..but I guess I didn't look at every single comment :-( people are saying they take a long time to deliver their products and how customer service is nasty...now I am worrying because money doesn't rain out the sky for me!..has anyone had any positive results with Toshiba?

Everyone has a horror story about some brand. With me it's Dell. Honestly I think it's just a matter of luck if you get one that runs well and lasts over 5 years. I do have a Toshiba Satellite (XP) that has lasted 7 years and runs fine. The keyboard was replaced 3 times (soft key material wore out) but it still runs XP fine...and the battery is original; still holds a 70 minute charge.

I've heard bad experiences as well. However, they do build a very good computer when they get around to it. Personally they haven't let me down. They aren't Apple that's for sure, but they are ok.

Why is the laptop's screen to my toshiba dim and flickering?
I've had my toshiba laptop (satellite a505 s6005) for over a year and the screen got dim and flickers continuously. The screen is so dim that one can barely read or see things distinctly. The flickering is not that bad but it is more than just subtle. I understand that it can either be the back light of the screen or the inverter. Which one is more likely the culprit?

What wi-fi driver I need to install for my Toshiba laptop?

How do I know what wi-fi driver I need to install for my Toshiba laptop?
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that originally came with Windows Vista, but I had XP installed instead. I recently just wiped out everything due to a virus and reinstalled XP, but I'm having trouble finding the necessary wi-fi driver to reinstall. I went on Toshiba's website and tried installing a few but no luck. Any suggestions?

That was your mistake, you downgraded.. You may want to put vista back on, ~
2 :
Go to toshiba's website, go to "Support" then click on the download drop-down menu, select your model and it should bring you to everything available for your laptop, just find what you need, download it and install it. good luck.
3 :
If you can̢۪t find the right drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. Perform a free driver scan at: http://www.best-driver-updater.com/
4 :
Good choice, I did not like Vista too much as well, especially at the start (better now with the service packs). You could consider upgrading to Windows 7, as many Vista drivers work there as well. For XP drivers, you can check the Toshiba website, but chances are they do not have XP drivers for newer models. Some Vista drivers might also work in XP, but the easiest is to simply find the right driver automatically using a driver finder program. Most likely it is an Intel, Realtek or other manufacturer's wifi chipset anyway. Those drivers do not need to come from Toshiba.

No all the driver files and devices are different
2 :
Look closely at you Dell disk. For whatever OS you have it says "dell version".
3 :
Unfortunately you will not be able to use the Dell disk on your Toshiba laptop, however there are possibly a few options to get your system restored/working. I am not sure which model your Toshiba system has but on some of their notebooks there is a restore feature. Please note this restore feature appears to be similar to Dell systems, in that it will remove everything that has been added (software/data etc) since buying the system, and then put the system back to the factory shipped install. Always make sure to backup anything that is important before reinstalling/restoring because if you not it will be lost. I found this link at Toshiba's site (please note since I do not have your Toshiba model I am not sure if this is an option) http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=http--cdgenp01csdtoshibacom-content-support-manuaerguides-su2184194-GMAD00176011SatProU40008Aug12pdf&sliceId=pdfPage_62&dialogID=68304269&stateId=1 (on pg 62) which details how to restore Toshiba systems back to Factory Defaults. If this option does not work, or you cannot find instructions on their site, you might want to try contacting them to see if they can send you a restore disk. I hope this helps.

How do I configure a Toshiba laptop?

How do I configure a Toshiba laptop?
I just bought a Toshiba laptop and didn't have the store configure it. They said that it will only run on one processor now instead of it's two and that i will need to get rid of certain extra things that windows puts on the computer that only slows it down. Any suggestions on how I can configure it to work like it would if I had the techs at the store do it would be great. Thanks in advance.

Here's how to tell if both CORES of your dual core processor are working. 1) press Ctrl+Alt+Del at the same time, in the open window, click on the Performance tab, you should see one or two separate cpu windows, hopefully you see two, indicating that BOTH cores are working. 2)right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, click on Properties, in the new window, you should see your system specs, i.e. cpu speed and memory total. You should see duplicate cpu speeds, e.g. 1.8ghz, 1.8ghz, indicating 2 cores are recognized by the OS. If you only have one recognized core, I would take the pc back to the store, unless you bought it as-is. Get rid of the BLOATware by clicking on the RUN link in your START menu, type msconfig in the box, then hit enter; in the new window, click on the STARTUP tab, then at the bottom, click 'Disable All', then click APPLY, then OK to restart your pc. When it restarts, all that crap that runs at startup wont run automatically anymore, freeing up cpu and memory resources for you. Put a check in the box that pops up after your first restart so that it wont continue to popup on each restart of your pc, you know what I mean when you see it. FYI, 'Disable All' does not turn off anything that is necessary for the pc to run properly. Good luck
2 :
as far as i know it will actually run on 2 possessor, just not while the computer is booting up, so it is only turning it on that will take longer, what you need to do is go to msconfig, in the start menu do a search for run click on that, a thing will pop up, type in msconfig after that it will ask for the admin pass, of if on the admin account it will ask if you want to continue, after that a window will pop up, go to the boot tab (the thing at the top that says boot) once there you should see so an advanced tab, after that you should see something about the number of prossesors, select to in that thing and click ok then do anything it tells you to after that.

How can i restore my Toshiba laptop to its factory setting?

How can i restore my Toshiba laptop to its factory setting?

I got a System Recovery disk in the box with my Toshiba laptop, That restores your laptop to factory settings. It seems many teens throw the disks away with the empty box as they see no immediate use for them
2 :
Your best option is a restore disc. It's the disc that came with the computer. This will completely return the laptop it to it's original settings. Barring that, get any windows disc. When you start your computer keep hitting the F keys. Depending on your laptop one of the F keys will open a boot menu. Mine is F8. Tell your computer to boot from disc. This will allow you to reinstall windows. And format your hard drive. Download drivers you need for your laptop here. http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp FYI, drivers are what allows your various components (mouse, keyboard, webcam, wifi, etc...) to work with your laptop. Last resort - Hit the laptop with a truck. Send it to Toshiba and tell them that there is a factory defect giving you serious problems and they need to fix it. Bitch accordingly until you get what you want. Hope that helps.
3 :
If you have the operating CD (windows vista for example) that I believe comes with toshiba laptops, insert it into your cd drive. Restart your computer and, very quickly, push the button that allows you to get to your bios. It will briefly say at the top or bottom of your screen, its usually F2. Next, arrow down to where to boot from, press enter, then arrow to the option that allows you to boot from CD drive. Now exit bios and save changes. Now, when your computer starts, it will load from the CD you inserted, and you will have the option to reformat your computer, thus returning it to factory settings. Note, when you do this, you will lose all saved data, files, and programs you have installed on your computer, so make sure you have backups of everything you wish to reload. You may have to spend some time downloading programs such as firefox or itunes, for example.
4 :
If you mean OS system ie. Windows XP/Vista, you will need the restore CD that came with your laptop. Before you continue, save any important data/pictures to a removable media. You then install the restore CD or the installation CD, it will wipe your hard disc and re-install the original software as in the factory installation.

What kind of RAM can I buy for my Toshiba laptop?

What kind of RAM can I buy for my Toshiba laptop?
I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista. I'd like to buy another 2GBs of RAM for it. Do I have to purchase it from Toshiba? Is there generic laptop RAM that's less expensive? On the product specs, it says it has DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz. From Toshiba, this runs $89.99. Maybe all other brands would be comparable in price?

It runs pc-5300 667mHz SODIMM Yes you can get it alot cheaper. Try newegg or tiger direct. For about 107.00 you can get 4gb of kingston low latency RAM with 4-4-4-12 timings. So theres no way i would pay 89.99 for a single 2gb module unless it was made of gold and puppies... and even then i would demand 3-3-3-9 timings

Usually in Windows XP or Vista, it should pick up the PnP signal (plug and play) if you plug it into a usb port in the computer, windows should automatically pick up the new hardware found. if it dont, then shut of the computer safely, then plug it in, the computer should recognize the logitech mouse in your toshiba laptop.

What can I do to fix my new Toshiba laptop's CD drive?
I have recently purchased a Satellite toshiba laptop, only a couple of months ago, and the CD drive is suddenly refusing to work. Whenever I insert a CD the computer loads for a second, then the CD drive makes a strange sort of jamming noise, and it acts as though nothing is there. How can I fix this?
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

If it's any and all CD's you put in there it's most likely a failed drive in which case I would contact Toshiba to have t fixed; if it's only a couple of months old it should still e under warranty. If it is only certain CD's then maybe you just have bad discs.
2 :
If the item is brand new from a store you have a minimum 1 year warranty. You need to call Toshiba and tell them the problem. They are a large company and have decent tech support. If you purchased it from a private party you're probably stuck and will have to replace the drive. You will pay a pretty high fee to have a computer store that specializes in notebook repair do the work but it is probably the best idea. Good luck on trying to get this done. I've been there and done that.
3 :
Call Toshiba. If you can handle installing it they'll probably just send you one. There are usually only 1 or 2 retaining screws holding it in. It ain't rocket science. Some pieces are made to be replaced in laptops. Though the small phillips head screwdriver will cost ya a buck. Otherwise, since it is still under warranty they'll fix it ,but you may have to pay shipping. Call and ask.

How to restore Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba laptop?

How to restore Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba laptop?
Hi everyone, I was wondering, if I screwed up the computer or if I installed a different operating system would I be able to restore to Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba laptop? If so, how do I do that, does a Windows Vista installation CD come with the laptop? Or do I have to use the recovery partition?
Laptops & Notebooks - 1 Answers

Most newer computers come with a recovery partition these days to help you restore the computer. If you mess up something, you can use the recovery partition or make recovery discs from it to restore your system. But if you install another OS over Windows, you won't be able to get it back because you erased it. If you want to install another OS safely, I would suggest either partitioning your hard drive to allow for the other system or install a virtual machine to run the other operating system in.

Hi what you are seeing is microsoft messing about with software, i wonder if you restarted or closed down after each install of new software as i have found in the past that i had to do that. otherwise this sort of issue sometimes occurred in the past. try plugging in a extra keyboard to see if that keyboard is also disabled on the function key. this is protectionism in the extreme.

the only thing that springs to mind is to place your xp/vista installation disc in your D drive . it will come up with a couple of questions . ie . do you want to do a re-format / or REPAIR?... If you select Repair , then it will simply search for any missing or corrupted files and either re=install them , or try to repair them . Its a straight forward wizard , you cant go wrong with it UNLESSS you opt for REINSTALL .. (Which you dont want to do at mo) Good luck :)
