How Long should a Toshiba laptop battery last?

How Long should a Toshiba laptop battery last?
I just got a Toshiba laptop, but the battery doesn't seem to be lasting very long. On the computer, it shows the % the battery has left before it dies. But it seems like its losing 1% of life every minute, so the battery would only last not even an hour and a half. Is this normal? Any ideas/help??
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If the laptop is new this isn't normal battery behavior. The battery should be good for 3-6 hours depending on what you do (running the CD/DVD will consume it quicker putting it's charge lifetime closer to the 3hr end if this use is continuous). If it is new you should exchange the battery as it should be under warranty. If replacing the battery doesn't fix it, you might want to replace the laptop as some problem with it could be causing the battery to drain extra fast. If this isn't a new laptop and battery then this could be normal for a battery that's about to die.
2 :
As much as it might suck to hear, but this is completely normal for toshiba laptops...I know it sucks. I bought a toshiba laptop once and in a couple of months, the battery was dead! Completely dead! I went online to buy a new one and found this out: "After a period of time, the battery will lose its ability to perform at maximum capacity and will need to be replaced. This is normal for all batteries." I was really dissapointed...
3 :
Battery life may vary considerably from specifications depending on product model, configuration, applications, power management settings and features utilized, as well as the natural performance variations produced by the design of individual components. Published battery life numbers are achieved on select models and configurations tested by Toshiba at the time of publication. Recharge time varies depending on usage. Battery may not charge while computer is consuming full power. After a period of time, the battery will lose its ability to perform at maximum capacity and will need to be replaced. This is normal for all batteries.

I used to have windows vista on my toshiba satellite laptop. Now that I have went through the process of installing the windows xp pro cd, I have no drivers at all! Please help. I hope I can find a site that will download all the drivers needed without having to go find each one.

the toshiba site should have drivers. also try windows update and look for the hardware drivers that may be available.
2 :
Toshiba Support by the hardware and devises installed and listed on your lap top model: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp The driver downloads are free.
3 :
Al the drivers for your laptop are on the Toshiba web site listed under your model number and Win Xp. ~ You will have to download them separately but they will all be together. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp#
4 :
Try @ the toshiba site, it should have the drivers for your laptop. Use another computer to download the drivers and save them to a usb flash stick if your laptop's Ethernet or wireless is not working. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp#

How to fix a Toshiba laptop keyboard?

How to fix a Toshiba laptop keyboard?
I think there are some buttons to push because this has happened before, but I completely forgot what buttons. Has anyone ever had this problem and fixed it before, where the keyboard won't work on a Toshiba laptop. How can I fix this?
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers

1 :
There is a chance that the cord for the keyboard was damaged. If that is true you will have to buy a new keyboard. The keyboard might have just disconnected. Try taking the toshiba to a computer repair man to have him take it apart and look, or if you are really careful you can do it yourself.
2 :
Are we to guess as to the model number of your lap top and the installed operating system ? Open control panel from start screen go to keyboard and click enable.

I just bought a Toshiba laptop, and im going to be moving away so i want to be able to skype my parents but the webcam sucks, the picutre is all dark and you can hardly see my face. I've tried to change all the settings and messed around with it for a long time but it still doesnt look good. Is there any ways to maybe download a program to make your webcam better.... any ideas?

LIGHTING IS THE KEY. Make sure you have plenty of light to illuminate target.
2 :
You can't physically make it better. What you could do it buy a different webcam of much better quality and use that. If you do not want to do that you could always improve the lighting in your room. Really, there is not a lot you can do to make it better. Now, the thing about lighting is you DO NOT want to direct it right onto the target. You are much better getting a light and reflecting it onto yourself - or just do a home made soft box for one to balance it out.
3 :
you can always get a usb camera

There's other chat services like Camfrog.com, Chatroulette.com, TeenChat.com, oovoo, Ivideochat, CamVoice.com, Omegle, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, GMail.com, AIM, etc. With WebcamMax.com (or free ManyCam.com), you can add some fun special effects (frames, masks/faces, warping/morphing, funny scenes, animation, etc) to your web cam stream (or capture). Most people only think of a webcam as being able to chat only. but you can also play motion sensing games like on http://www.SillyWebcam.com (other online tools: Cameroid.com, FlameOnWebcam.com, PlaydoCam.com, FunFaceCam.com, MotionGames.net).

How can I get my Toshiba Laptop Screen fixed?

How can I get my Toshiba Laptop Screen fixed?
I purchased a great Toshiba laptop last June at Office Depot. I also purchased the Office Depot warranty. I have no idea what to do but my laptop screen is totally ruined and I am not sure what to do next! Do I contact Toshiba or take it to Office Depot? Will anyone fix it or am I out of luck?
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Did you drop it, hit it with a baseball bat or shoot it with a rocket launcher? Noone will fix it for free, and it will cost you the price of a new laptop to fix it. Did it break itself or just stop working one day? Take it back to Office Depot. By the way, if you dropped it, take it back anyway and they might fix it for you anyway. Just don't mention you dropped it ;).
2 :
Check with OD. Sometimes the store's warranty covers repairs to things even when you caused the damage. Toshiba on the other hand will not repair user damage; it is not covered in the warranty and you will pay a hefty dollar for service.
3 :
If you ruined it through something you did and not a hardware problem, it will not be covered by the warranty. The cost to fix it, is not worth the price because you can buy a new one for less. But since it is under warranty, take it to Office Depot first, or you will void your warranty if you have it fixed elsewhere!
4 :
You should first check for repairs using the warranty from Office Depot, I always buy the factory extended warranty not a stores warranty. Toshiba does offer extended warranty with or with out accidental damage coverage. If you do not have the accidental coverage they will not fix it for free. Contact one of these for price if OD will not fix it: http://www.QHT.com (this one is also a warranty center for Toshiba) or http://www.frys.com I have used both and have had good luck. Hope this helps.

Why Toshiba laptop does not recognize battery?

Why Toshiba laptop does not recognize battery?
A few months ago, my boss bought a Toshiba laptop. After sometimes, the laptop could not recognize the battery. We thought that the problem was with the battery and bought a new one. Still the battery could not show to be charging if power was connected and neither was it being recognized by the laptop. Can anybody help me understand what could be the problem?
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The only thing I could think of is that it's a BIOS problem. Has your boss been using any registry cleaners that could have messed up the BIOS? If it's not BIOS then it's probably just a battery hardware problem, the connections from the battery to the rest of the laptop are loose or broken. For a full diagnosis you'll have to send it to Best Buy or some other tech place.
2 :
The charging circuit in your laptop is hardware controlled, so no virus is responsible. Your hardware has failed. That usually means a motherboard replacement since the charging circuit is soldered to the board. If the laptop works plugged in, just use it that way. Mother board replacement runs $100-$300 depending on the laptop. Incidentally, harddrive "cleaners" do not affect BIOS. Only BIOS upgrade files from the laptop or motherboard manufacturer or manual changes can affect BIOS settings.

yes. better specs
2 :
do a review search for that price range ----- but for 2000.grand give me a mac
3 :
i would say macbook pro is better if you plan to run leopard os. if you plan to run windows, than there is no point of buying mac. being an ex mac user, i could not understand why mac wants to get the share of the windows user.....silly.
4 :
toshiba is not the best he is just being a salesman i suggest doing a little more research
5 :
Macs are really "overpriced". Many people claim that the style and design of a Mac is worth it, but they are expensive no doubt. Dells are also "brand name" so you pay more. Toshiba's are not "the best" but you get more for your money. If you spend $2000 on a Mac it would have a slower specs than a $2000 Dell, and a $2000 Toshiba would beat them both. If cost is no option though, and your willing to spend a lot more (around $4000!) then Macs, Alienware, and Dell XPSs will be the best computers. But at the $2000 range, a Toshiba will have the best stuff under the hood.
6 :
No brand is better than the other. I work in the IT Industry and use my laptop daily and have for the last 5 years. I love Toshiba's because they have been great for me. However, some other friends of mine have had bad experiences with them. My opinion, you cannot go wrong buying a Toshiba, just make sure you get the extended warranty no matter what brand you buy. I had a Mac, got rid of it because all of the tools I use as a developer cannot be installed on the Mac. Buy a Mac if you are not going to need windows programs and games.
7 :
No, Toshiba is not the best. Why would you listen to those underpaid high school/college kids at Bestbuy? Even the Geek Squad is questionable at times. In terms of number of repairs, Dell and Sony have the fewest. Top specs are arguable, you can find different specs by different brands. HP and Gateway normally cater towards the cheaper end of the spectrum though, but that's not to say you won't find a high spec'd HP or Gateway. 2 of my friends had Toshibas, both of them broke. That's just personal anecdote, but definitely get an extended warranty for your laptop. You might have to argue with Geek Squad a lot (like my friend had to in order to get their computer fixed. They wouldn't junk it out even after 6 repairs even though it was the same issue). I'd say Sony for top specs in a big box retailer, but you'll also pay the premium for it. My friend got a laptop for $1300 with a 200gb harddrive, 2gb of RAM, Vista Home Premium, and a 2.2-ish Ghz Core 2 Duo. So that's probably going to be near what you find in the "top of the line" category. Just looking online, this is probably the best spec's you'll find on a laptop. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8617721&type=product&id=1192835691910 It's got 250gb, a dual core processor, 2gb of RAM, Vista Home Premium, integrated web cam, memory card reader, gigabit LAN, a/b/g/n wifi, and a 8600M graphics card. You might be able to find some other frills on different notebooks, but the 250gb/2gb/Core2Duo is where laptops cap out. The only difference would be webcam, fingerprint reader, Bluray drive, higher resolution screens, etc. That laptop is a 17" though, but Asus is a very good brand. Their manufacturer warranty lasts for 2 years with next day shipping to and from the repair center. Most manufacturers only have a 1 year warranty and you have to pay for shipping. If your dad uses a credit card that doubles the manufacturer's warranty (it's a perk on some cards), Asus is hands down the best deal you will find.
8 :
It isn't. The MacBooK Pro with Leopard is way better than both the Dell and the Toshiba - unless you are a gamer. http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/ MacBook Pro runs Windows too http://www.mactech.com/articles/mactech/Vol.24/24.02/VirtualizationBenchmark/ And Leopard is way better than Vista as voted by PC Mag.com http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2704,2273579,00.asp Guided tour of Leopard http://www.apple.com/findouthow/macosx/
9 :
Just don't get a Dell--the quality sucks. I've had good experiences with Toshiba laptops, but this was many years ago. Macs are great because they can run Windows programs/games and Mac stuff. If you don't anticipate a need to run Mac stuff or if you don't really like Mac OS X, a Toshiba is probably good enough. ThinkPads are nice too. As a rule of thumb, the absolute best that you want is always going to be $4000, no matter what time period you're in. In the mid-90s, the top of the line laptop (a Toshiba that I had) had a 90 MHz Pentium and a CD drive; it cost $4,000. Nowadays, the absolute best computers are still $4,000.

This is the most expensive Toshiba, currently in the best buy stores. I wouldn't buy it. Satellite it's not the best by Toshiba, but Quosmio.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8674598&productCategoryId=abcat0502003&type=product&tab=2&id=1197075130745#productdetail With $2000 I'd built my computer from HP and would put the fastest processor, TV tuner,Blue tooth,12 cell battery, The best Nvidia video card, direct labeling disc, webcam, 2 year warranty, double hard drive at 120GB each Windows Vista Ultimate. Or buy me a Mac pro, for $2000.
11 :
do your own homework, and if you are serious about getting bang for your buck, then buy DELL, go to www.dell.com.au web site and customise a inspiron 1720 to your own specs and see just what you can get for $2000 then compare this with the others......you will find it hard to find any better specs for the same value. I have owned 4 DELL laps overt the past 7 years and am about to upgrade to a 1720.

yes but you have to open the case up - not recommended for a novice.

Thats possible, i do it many times on my mate’s laptop to get some assignments. if u have another pc or can borrow from some friend then this is perfect way.well , first of all u need is a password reseting application. Anyways after installing it. press start go to all programs, locate the program here ,its called active password reseter . then if u want to make a bootable cd press that option otherwise u can also use a usb, but i recommend CD, burn the cd. after that put the cd in the computer u wanna break password for. make sure that u have checked cd drive as the first boot device. if not , goto BIOS and change it. the cd will boot, then select the first option , â€Å“boot from active pass… cdâ€ , press â€Å“0″ to select the option. now it will ask the location of the drive u want to search, go for the second option. after that , it will take some time to load SAM file on the computer . when done. press enter . now u will have three options ,: administrator, guest and normal username. now comes the main part 1 if u are trying to break into UR OWN computer , select ur username and reset the password by following the prompts. if u have some skill , u can play around with the options, go for it. though i would suggest u to just let the software do what ever it wishes to. now exit the application. restart ur computer, sometimes u have to press the main switch to restart it, dont forget to take the cd out . tada , ur password is erased. 2 IF U ARE LIKE ME ,AND WANT TO BREAK INTO SOMEONE ELSE COMPUTER AND DONT WANT TO LEAVE ANY TRACE OF UR ACTIVITY DO this: instead of selecting username, select administrator. and follow the prompts. restart the machine. logon by pressing the administrator profile on welcome screen, now it will take like 5 minutes for the computer to customize ur profile, dont worry let it take its time, after its done, ur free to play with what ever u wanted to . delete his data , do whatever, copy assignments (my personal favorite).when ur done, shut down the system, restart with the bootable cd again. again follow the same steps and select the administrator , now check the box in front ofâ€disable this accountâ€ and ur done , press â€Å“yâ€ and exit the application. take the cd out.now just to make sure that u have deleted the admin account. restart and goto welcome screen. now u will only find ur friends password demanding account sitting in the centre. hoooraaay. keep this cd away from all morons. and dont start telling to all and sundry. now turn off the computer , give urself a pat on the back thinking how evil u are. http://windowspassword.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-reset-windows-xp-password.html cheers this is only for educational purposes, i do not endorse any kind of hacking.

Use the alt key with the prtsc key. Or possibly the fn key and prtsc. Then open Paint or whatever graphics program you have, right click, paste.
2 :
you should press the Fn key together with the PRTSC ( Fn + PRTSC). the Fn key can be found normally at the lower left of the keyboard.

Press F8 when the unit starts up, and then select "repair my computer" using the enter key. This will load the Toshiba recovery. you can the use the bottom option "Toshiba HDD recovery" now using the mouse, then follow the instructions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This looks like an older model, so you may need to create recovery discs in windows. the best way to do this, is click on the start menu and type "disc" the will find the Toshiba disc creator in the start menu, and you can create 1 or 2 discs to restore your computer. If your using discs, place disc one in the drive while its on and restart the unit. When the unit first turns back on after seeing the Toshiba logo hit the F12 key and using the up down and enter key, use the CD/DVD drive, and this will launch the recovery utility. Please note you will lose all of your data Hope this helps.

Is it possible to force my Toshiba laptop to accept reference drivers from ATI?

Is it possible to force my Toshiba laptop to accept reference drivers from ATI?
I want to update my video drivers to ATI's newest catalyst drivers, which several people I know are claiming make huge performance boosts. However, my Toshiba laptop won't allow me to use drivers from anyone but Toshiba, which hasn't updated their video drivers since last August. I would be willing to bet these are the original driver ATI put out when the video card was released, which is a joke. Am I just stuck with these antique drivers, or is there some way to force the computer to accept the new catalyst drivers?

My girlfriend lost her power cord adapter for her laptop, which is a Toshiba. Is this a generic item that can be purchased online or at the office depot where she got her laptop? She prefers to get it offline. Scratch power supply out of this question. I actually meant the power cord or AC adapter that plugs into the laptop.

brands dont matter. its the band it operfates on. (a,b,g,n). just buy a wireless router from walmart. any brand will do.
2 :
Any brand will work - Netgear is good choice for home wireless network. That's what I personally used for the last 3 years. D-Link is also ok. I would not recommend Linksys, though - if you have other options. For example: http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/GWirelessRouters/WGR614.aspx

Any routers would work. I have linksys which seems to be OK
4 :
buy a netgear router (thats what we have )and look on cnet.com for a reviews.

i really want a webcam but i dont want to buy the seprate one. i have a toshiba satellite laptop. i dont know if it makes a difference what kind it is. so do you know if you can send a laptop back to get a webcam installed and then have it sent back to you? i'm sure if you can it would have a price.
Laptops & Notebooks - 2 Answers

That would probable be extremely expensive, since they may have to install more than just the camera. If the motherboard or other peripherals are not equipped to take the webcam, they have to be replaced as well. It's far cheaper and easier to just buy an external one. When you get your next laptop, get one with a camera installed.
2 :
Unless the webcam is an optional component there is no way to retro fit one, the Motherboard is designed to fit the case, you cannot just hack it about.

Ain't happening! Download your laptop manual from the manufacturer's website and read through it. The printer port is not capable of connecting as a video port and unless your laptop specifically states that it will support two or dual monitors, there is no way in haties that it can be done.

If you are using Windows Vista or higher, you can go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Snipping Tool and it will do what Apple+Shift+4 does on a Mac. If you have MS Office OneNote, you can push Windows+S and it does the same time. If you are using Windows XP or earlier and don't have OneNote, you will need to download one of the many free screen clipping programs such as LightScreen. Go to PortableApps.com and you can get a copy of that program that doesn't require installation.
2 :
If you press the "Prnt Scrn" or "Print Screen" button on the top right of your keyboard the screenshot will be copied to your clipboard. Then, open up Paint from the start menu and Paste the screenshot there. Save the files wherever you like.

Use a "print screen" or "Prt Sc" on your keyboard and paste it on your image editor like paint or ACDsee, or photoshop. And save it. How do I connect my Sony Bravia TV to my Toshiba laptop?

How do I connect my Sony Bravia TV to my Toshiba laptop?
How do I connect my Sony Bravia XBR TV to my Toshiba laptop? What cable do I need? Will a "Monster Cable Fiber Optic 400 DFO" or a "Monster Cable 800 HD HDMI" cables work? What do I connect to what?
TVs - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It depends. Radio Shack should have a wire to connect your laptop to your TV. It comes with instructions, to plug it in to your TV.
2 :
It depends on the laptop. Does it have an HDMI output? Does it have a DVI output? Does it have a VGA output? Those are the 3 HD output types that a computer might have. HDMI is the rarest one right now, but it does exist on some computers. If your laptop has HDMI, then just use that. All you need is a simple, cheap, HDMI cable from amazon.com, monoprice.com, bluejeanscable.com, or any local computer store. It will carry both the video and audio over the same cable for you. Don't waste money on an expensive Monster brand one. If your laptop has VGA, then see if the Sony has VGA (many do). You can then just use a VGA cable for the video. If the Sony only has HDMI and the laptop is VGA, then you might need to invest in a VGA to HDMI converter box. For more information on that see here, http://sewelldirect.com/articles/vga-to-hdmi.aspx If your laptop has DVI, then you can use a DVI to HDMI adapter with an HDMI cable, or you can use a DVI to HDMI cable (same difference). These can be found online or in most computer/TV stores. They are fairly common now. Both the VGA and DVI cables are video only though. So you will still need to deal with the audio on its own. If you use the VGA converter box, get one of them which also accepts audio, then you can feed the laptop audio into it and the box will feed both video and audio to the TV. If you use VGA or DVI-HDMI, look at the TV and see what type of audio input it associates with the video connection you are using. VGA will often have PC audio input (looks like headphone jack). DVI-HDMI (and sometimes VGA) will usually have RCA Stereo (red/white). But quite often only 1 HDMI port has that, so you have to look around at all your HDMI ports and see which one has that association (if that's the video type you're going to use). If the TV has a PC audio input then you want a Stereo Mini cable (3.5mm cable/auxiliary cable - think iPod to car stereo). You plug one end into the laptop headphone jack and the other into your computer. Here is an example, http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Mini-Stereo-Cable-for-iPhone/dp/B000T4LFCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256574663&sr=1-2 If the TV has a RCA stereo input then you want a Stereo Mini to RCA cable. You still plug the Stereo Mini end into the headphone jack on the laptop. But now you plug the RCA ends into the TV (because that's what they have). Here is an example, http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-3-5RCA-12-3-5mm-Stereo-Cable/dp/B000F7P7EW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256574711&sr=1-3

I have 2 Toshibas..a full size laptop (Satellite) and a netbook. I have not had any problems with either of them. I've had my big laptop for about 5 months now and it's still great. My Satellite has a dedicated graphics card (Radeon HD 3650) and it plays games great..no problem playing WoW, Devil May Cry 4, Sims 3.. and mine was only around $600.
3 :
Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://rcyj.com

How well would a nine year old toshiba laptop be?

How well would a nine year old toshiba laptop be?
I was thinking of buying this old toshiba laptop but it has windows me on it and when I googled windows me it says that it was made in 2000. That puts the computer around nine years of age, maybe earlier, I'm not exactly sure how old it is. But how well would a toshiba laptop nine years of age work? Would it be extremely slow and would it be more prone to getting viruses? I just need some help trying to determine what would be the best option of buying or not buying this laptop.

Well it depends is it brand new? Or did it have a previous owner? If it didn't have a previous owner then it should be fine it would act like a normal computer just a different model. If it did have an owner then it depends on how he/she treated it.
2 :
it can't be good. first off, after windows me, windows 2000, xp, vista had been released in turns, you have to understand that new OS were released to adapt major technology innovations and etc. basically i guess the old toshiba prolly has a pentium II or pentium III chip, which is very slow in today's standard. you probably would have many compatibility issues with today's techonology and program firmwares you wanna run on your computer.
3 :
Epic Fail
4 :
I'm not sure what your price range is but I'm currently selling my Toshiba laptop which is about 1.5 years old. It's in great condition and it's only $500.00.
5 :
I have an old Pentium III desktop from the year 2000, running Win2000. It works fine for me for what I do. It would probably need a lightened OS using nLite and probably 2000 (XP maybe, depending on RAM size)

How do i find the requirements for the sims 3 on my Toshiba laptop?

How do i find the requirements for the sims 3 on my Toshiba laptop?
I just bought the Sims 3 and im hearing it doesn't work for all laptop. I dont know where to go to see my requirements on my Toshiba Laptop so can you help me please. What are the steps? and i know mine is Toshiba Satellite but i dont know the letters and numbers to it... Please do it step - by - step
Video & Online Games - 3 Answers

1 :
The game requirements are in the game booklet, printed on the bottom of the box, and on the official site here: http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq Please note that all but the high-end gaming laptops with dedicated VRAM are using "built-in graphics chipsets", and you must meet the requirements for those. If you have Windows 7, treat it like Windows Vista for the requirements. To find out what is in your Toshiba, then run 'dxdiag' from the Start menu. In Windows 7/Vista just type dxdiag in the "search programs and files' box and hit enter. In Windows XP, click Run... from the Start menu and type dxdiag there and hit enter. The information you need is on the General and Display tabs. You can also save the information to a file to keep for reference, or if you need to upload it anywhere. The important parts you need look like this (at least on my machine). I have deleted a bunch of other stuff not directly related to the game requirements: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/17/2010, 11:31:52 Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 4094MB RAM Page File: 1531MB used, 10752MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 11 --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 Chip type: GeForce GTX 275 Display Memory: 2670 MB Dedicated Memory: 879 MB Shared Memory: 1791 MB Driver File Version: 8.16.0011.9062 (English) Driver Date/Size: 8/17/2009 00:57:00, 9380352 bytes YOUR machine will have different information. If your system does not exactly meet or exceed the requirements, I won't say that it will not run, but you might have problems with slowness, crashing and lockups. My video card you can see is not listed as supported (the ones immediately made before and after it are), yet I have no problems. If your system is too old, the game may not run at all.
2 :
Well you can go to http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/ Select The Sims 3 from the drop down menu (or type it in) and click "Can You Run it?" It will tell you your specs, the requirements for sims 3, and if you meet them! In order to play it well, you need to exceed the minimum requirements. If you just meet them, you will only be able to play Sims 3 on low settings and it won't look good and there will be lag.
3 :
The modle of your computer has nothing to do with the way a game will run on it, you could be running on alein ware and still run Sims 3, it matters if you have the right requirments of hard ware and OS, on the back of the Sims 3 box it says what you need, hit start on your computer, run, type in DxDiag then hit enter, compaire everything, or put the disk in the disk drive and see if it works.

Considering a PC is ONLY as smart as its user, don't blame Windows. 95% of peoples computer troubles are caused by themselves. Good luck on finding a linux driver for your cam.

I hear you. I don't think you'll have a problem. usually you can just "turn it on" by going on a video chat site or program. Like, if you go to Facebook Video Chat Rounds (http://www.rounds.com/facebook-video-chat/) It will detect your webcam and ask to "allow access." If you click "allow," it will activate the webcam. That shouldn't be affected by your OS.

Depending on the distro of linux you are using, if you search your software center or repositories and search for cheese webcam booth and install it, it should auto detect the cam for you. I have a toshiba L505 and it worked for me.

Always try "Recovery' first. If you erase the HDD you will have to reinstall Windows & drivers for your system. Depending how new your system is you may have a recovery Partition on your HDD.
